Sometimes I wonder how we may treat a friend, family member, colleague, acquaintance, etc, differently, if one of their 5 senses differed from ours. What if their body language was different? What if someone was actually incapable of producing the response you wanted?
If I was unable to see, would someone berate me for improperly cleaning the dishes?
If I could not hear, would someone hold a grudge if I didn’t return a phone call?
If my fingers and hands didn’t do what I wanted them to, would I be thought a bad person because I didn’t return a gift, message or hold the door open for another?
I get the pain and suffering inherent we all are working through, I do. When we do not choose empathy, or sympathy, we become hard on ourselves — you punish yourself, guilt yourself, or make it about you, completely. That is a rabbit-hole to go down. The ego-trap.
What about looking at the situation in another way? The way you perceive reality cannot be readily superimposed unto another’s.
